Nicki's Reaction to the VMA Snub.

The 2015 VMA nominees were announced today, July 21st, and it definitely included some snubs like they always do. Nick Minaj has been nominated in three categories but still isn't happy about the situation. Nicki has been nominated in Best Female Video and Best Hip Hop Video for "Anaconda", as well as being nominated in the category Best Collaboration for "Bang Bang". The Barbz went crazy on the internet for many reasons, so let's take a closer look at those.

Anaconda Denied

The Barbz first questioned immediately why "Anaconda' wasn't nominated for Video of the Year. Anaconda broke the 24-streaming record on Vevo by having 19.6 million views within its first day of being released. The video broke the record and had EVERYONE talking about it. The buzz around the video, song, choreography, and cover art were being talked about non-stop. It was hard not to know about the video. The cover art caught like wildfire and immediately had numerous memes like these.

People couldn't stop talking about it. The twerk and booty filled video had plenty to talk about as well. With all the hype around the video and the fact that it broke the 24 record, it was deserving of being nominated for the Video of the Year; but it didn't get that recognition. Not only were Barbz upset, but Nicki was too.

Feeling Myself Gets No Love

"Feeling Myself" was another snub that wasn't going to go unnoticed. Nicki immediately questioned MTV as to why the video wasn't nominated at all, joking if she "missed the deadline". Barbz immediately flipped out as to why is wasn't recognized either. The "Feeling Myself" video features Beyonce in it and is an awesome video! The only problem here is that the video was and still is Tidal exclusive. I personally think Nicki shot herself in the foot for this one. The video most likely would've been nominated or at least recognized if it wasn't Tidal exclusive. So I don't think Nicki has much to defend because it was all up to her that the video was Tidal exclusive.

Feud, What Feud?

Ever since the nominations being announced, Nicki has been all over Twitter. Nicki was tweeting like crazy about the situation and questioning VMAs decision for their nominations, which she has every right to do, and the next thing we see are headlines that Nicki has thrown "jabs" at Taylor Swift. Here are some tweets on how everything played out.

My Thoughts

I think that Nicki had every right to rant like she did, but I would've too if I was her. I don't understand her confusion as to why "Feeling Myself" wasn't nominated because she kind of shot herself in the foot for that one only being Tidal exclusive. However, I do understand where she is coming from with the "Anaconda" snub. As you can see, the tweets start off playful and have no anger in them, and then everything gets out of hand. I do understand where she is coming from where she refers to "other" girls breaking records and impacting culture with videos because that is exactly what "Anaconda" did, but didn't get the same recognition as Taylor's "Bad Blood" which broke anaconda's 24 record. Obviously this is throwing some shade at Taylor Swift, but more so at the VMAs as too their reasoning behind the snub. Nicki also has a valid point with black women not being rewarded for impacting pop culture. Taylor got recognition for it so why wouldn't Nicki?

Then

This is where everything got out of hand, exactly what the media does. All of sudden headlines were swirling that Nicki was taking jabs at Taylor and the beef between them was more relevant than ever. However, Nicki was jabbing Taylor and states that she has mad love for her and asks her for her thoughts on it. The best tweet Nicki makes is with the comparison between her and Taylor. She says that Taylor was applauded for taking her music off of Spotify but Nicki was dragged for being apart of Tidal. The comparison couldn't be any more accurate. I never really thought about this until she tweeted it, and I'm glad she did. Both moves by the artists were for the same purpose, to appreciate the artists work more. Nicki got criticized while Taylor got praised. It shows exactly what she is trying to get across. I finally think that Taylor's response was an okay one, and kind of shady too. However, I don't the two artists have any beef with each other but just the situation itself. People are making it into a feud that isn't one. What are your thoughts on the VMA snub?
