5 Albums Everyone Slept On In 2015
While the entire world was revolving their life choices around "1989" and "25," there were other artists that released albums this year. Yes, that means someone else had music other than Taylor Swift. There were many albums released but, in my opinion, these are five of the most slept on albums of 2015.
"Breathe In. Breathe Out."
When Hilary Duff announced she was releasing a new album everyone literally couldn’t wait. This is what dreams were made of. Hilary’s last album, "Dignity," was released in 2007 and then she disappeared from the music scene. Hilary was busy growing up with her son Luca, who was born in 2012, and focused on her self and her family. Hilary then started to confirm the works of her newest album "Breathe In. Breathe Out.," and like I said, everyone rejoiced. Hilary released “Sparks” as the lead single and had an accompanying video that went along with it. The video featured Tinder, the whole swipe left or right thing, and it left fans a little disappointed. The Tinder date seemed weird, but kind of cute. We wanted to see more Hilary and less Tinder talk. Hilary listened to her fans and released a Tinder-free video. The album and single never really got much traction though. The hype was there, but the radio play wasn’t. Sadly, Hilary was even planning on touring with this album, but that idea vanished. The album was a good one though. The album has plenty of other songs that should’ve been released, like “Nights Like This,” “My Kind” and “Confetti” because they all were super catchy. I was sad to see the album not do so well, but that’s because everyone was sleeping on it. Check out the colorful "Sparks" video below; the one without Tinder!
"Blue Neighborhood"
Troye Sivan isn’t a name that everyone knows and that causes my heart to shake, bend and break. Troye is an immensely talented artist that has gained a lot of momentum this year and even had his first US television performance on "The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon" recently. Troye released his first major-label EP in 2014 with "TRYXE," which peaked at number five on the Billboard 200. In September, he released his second major-label EP with "Wild." Troye was just simply a YouTuber from Australia that was being recognized by artists like Taylor Swift. I still remember Taylor Swift tweeting about his EP Wild and that was the moment I feel in love with his music. Troye also released his first studio album, "Blue Neighborhood," in December 2015. The album deserves more people listening to it. The euphoric pop sound that the album has instantly puts me into a happy state of mind. Troye is an artist that everyone needs to keep on their radar, because he is making his moves whether you’re paying attention or not. Watch his VEVO performance of "Wild" below and try not to bop along with the beat.
"Confident"
Demi Lovato was staring a new era with her “Cool For The Summer” vibes and I was loving it. I applaud her for her #NMM, no makeup Mondays, and just her body appreciation. She was staring a more healthy and empowering era with this album especially. “Cool For The Summer” was the first single that did relatively well. The song put the staple on your summer playlist and proved that Demi wasn’t playing games. The second single, “Confident,” did in fact have radio play as well, but was not nearly as powerful of a single. The album debuted well, but didn’t stay on top long. The album truly shows the vocal ability from Demi, especially with songs like “Stone Cold,” and “For You.” The album also has a song with Iggy Azalea, which was awesome to hear since Iggy hasn’t released any new music because she has been busy working on her next album. I think that the overall album has some heartfelt and heavy vocals that make it truly stand out. Check out her powerful performance of "For You" below!
"Haiz"
Hailee Steinfeld has had quite the year ever since starring in "Pitch Perfect 2." I didn’t think the movie would launch a pop music career for her, but I was wrong. Hailee sang “Flashlight” in the movie, which is a cliché pop song that truly wasn’t that good. Heck, Jessie J couldn’t make it sound that great, and that says something about the track. Hailee was then signed by a record label and released her single, “Love Myself.” The pop track immediately put her on the charts. “Love Myself” became that song that everyone was jamming to, even though some questioned it’s meaning. Hailee later released an EP titled "Haiz," which only had four tracks. The four tracks however, were ones that proved her as a pop artist. The clever and catchy songs consistently made them earworms for me. “You’re Such A” is a witty, and humorous song, while “Hell No’s and Headphones” has a more chill vibe, but they all show her variety as an artist. I cannot wait to hear more music from her. Listen to "You're Such A" below and prepare to have it stuck in your head for a week.
Bea Miller was an X Factor contestant that was one of the youngest on the show. Bea had a great voice but was still trying to find her sound as an artist on the show. Bea didn't win that season, but she was determined to keep going and I'm beyond glad she did. Bea's debut album, Not An Apology, was released in July of 2015. Bea has released her first single "Young Blood" and her second single "Fire N Gold" which led her to having the ability to chart on the Billboard Hot 100 with her second single. Not An Apology peaked at number 7 on the Billboard 200 chart, which was amazing to witness! As a fan, it was beyond heartwarming to see her debut album succeed. The album, I must say, was and still is one of my favorites this year. The pop rock album was rebellious and gave me songs that related so well to my life. The whole album is incredible and there are no dull songs on it. Guaranteed. Beyond the album, Bea was also featured as a VEVO Lift artist and was an opening act for Fifth Harmony on their Reflection Tour this summer! I was lucky enough to be able to see her live which only made me appreciate her music even more. Listen to her VEVO Lift session below as she performs "Paper Doll" from her album!
If I were you, I would at least give some of these albums a shot. So, start a new music obsession and listen to them. Don’t do it for me, do it for the artists.
