Pop Thoughts With Ralphie Aversa

I got the great opportunity to get in touch with Ralphie Aversa and receive his input on how pop stars use social media. Ralphie has experience all across the board which easily makes him knowledgeable in his field. Ralphie has experience in radio, television, print and Internet which makes him skilled in all of these areas. Ralphie currently has a radio show "Ralphie Tonight" that airs in New York, Rhode Island, Connecticut, and Pennsylvania. Ralphie covers everything from the hits of today, to exclusive interviews, to even being on location of some great events, like The Grammys! Ralphie has also contributed to Fox, CNN, MSNBC, TMZ, and others! Ralphie is continuously involved in the pop music industry and I was excited to hear his thoughts!

Questions

What pop stars connect with fans the best by using social media?

Taylor Swift because she is in a league of her own. Taylor really spends the time to figure out who a fan is and reaches out to them. Taylor has innovated and changed the way artists connect with their fans.

Any advice on how new artists should use social media?

They need to be open and honest. They also need to approach social media like a song because they need to have that emotional connection. The emotional connection shows how open and honest they are, which will create a stronger fan connection through social media.

Any social media platforms you'd like to see pop stars use more often? Is Snapchat something that would be good for them to use and connect that way?

I see the movement behind Snapchat, but I don't think there is enough room for it. The artists, and their teams, already have to maintain the three huge social media sites; Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. I don't see the room for the maintenance of Snapchat on their part, or not until another platform fades away.

Do you think Justin Bieber has done a good job of refocusing his image on social media after what has happened over the last few years?

Absolutely! America definitely loves a comeback story. Justin may have never left the spotlight but he definitely has done a good job on refocusing his image on social media. Justin simply  has to say and do good things on top of releasing good music, which he has done. "Where Are U Now" and "What Do You Mean?" have both been great hits for Justin and it really helps bring back that social media presence in a positive way.

Side Note

Speaking of JB, Ralphie interviewed him recently!

Katy Perry mentioned in an interview that she would be open to using platforms like Periscope during her shows. Do you think that Periscope is the next thing to embrace?

I think that if one social media platform would emerge, it would be Periscope. Pericope is changing the way we consume live events. I can see how artists would want to embrace platforms like Periscope in order to control the livestream. I can see how companies like Live Nation would embrace it too, because they would not only promote the events on there, but also prevent low quality videos of the event from being put out there.

Who is your guilty pleasure on who to follow on social media?
Melissa Joan Hart! We follow each other and was my crush back in the day.

My Thoughts

I agreed with most of Ralphie's points and the responses made me look at things differently too! I thought Snapchat would be something easy that pop stars could get more involved with and connect with fans that way, but I didn't take into consideration how much of a burden that could be. They do already have to maintain bigger social media sites, like Ralphie said, and adding Snapchat on top of that wouldn't be necessary. I also love his response to Periscope. Yes, I thought it would be cool for artists and companies like Live Nation to team with Periscope for the convenience aspect, but also for the sheer protection. Periscope and the artists would be able to have full control on the livestream that would be available, instead of having those lower quality videos get out there. I thought Ralphie raised a great reason as to why this would be the platform to emerge. Also, I couldn't have wanted a better answer for the guilty pleasure. It was pure awesome. Huge shoutout to Ralphie for taking the time out of his night to answer these questions! You can catch "Ralphie Tonight" on a few different stations, check out his interviews, which includes Justin Bieber, and be sure to check out his podcasts too!
