Pop Thoughts With Kingsley

Kingsley is a an outspoken, hilarious, and down right honest YouTube personality and Internet sensation originally from Missouri. I'm sure you have seen his super funny rant videos that he has posted on YouTube, but there is more to him than just the rants and quirky personality. Kingsley has recently been involved with Clevver Tv, a YouTube channel, where he has his own segment with guests called "Drama King" to talk about everything pop culture. Kingsley consistently stays up-to-date with everything pop culture. He provides a comedic spin within his videos, which has grown his followers tremendously. Kingsley has created an outstanding social media presence with over 3 million subscribers on YouTube, over 900,000 followers on Twitter, and over 200,000 likes on his Facebook page. Kingsley has more followers on Twitter than some popular music artists like Madonna, only at over 600,000 followers, and Meghan Trainor, only at over 800,000 followers. Kingsley knows how to create a well established image on social media and does a wonderful job in maintaining that image. The video below is an episode of "Drama King"

The Questions.

Who are some pop stars that are your guilty pleasure to follow on social media sites and why? Kim Kardashian. I really have no idea. She seems so vain, but she also seems like the nicest person on the planet.

What major mistakes do you think pop stars do on social media? Was Iggy Azalea’s Papa Johns rant a good or bad move on her part? I think some pay attention to negativity too much (like Iggy) and/or take things too seriously. You should be interacting with your supporters and blocking everyone else out. Iggy's Papa John's rant was annoying; she could have handled it much faster offline. It just seemed childish.

Who are some pop stars, that you believe, use social media to their fullest advantage? Nicki Minaj. Any magazine cover she's on, you know about it. Any record she breaks, you know about it. Any awards she wins, you know about it. She's at an awards show, there's 50 pictures on her Instagram of her outfit. New music out, she has 3,000 snippets on her page. She's crazy.

In creating a well-recognized social media presence for yourself, what advice would you give to upcoming pop stars about their social media presence? They have to stay consistent.

What have you learned about branding oneself on social media from pop stars? Nothing. I've learned more from Tyler Oakley than I have from any pop star. I think social media is still being discovered and perfected. We all try new things all the time, and some tactics work, and some don't. I think that's the beauty of this new age.

What would you like to see pop stars do more on social media and what social media platform would you like to see pop stars utilize more often? Just interact with their fans more. It's so frustrating to see people who just post things and then disappear. You can take a few minutes out of your day to talk to the people that support you and make their day. It's not that hard.

My Thoughts

I couldn't have agreed more on Kingsley's point of how users on social media, whether a pop star, business, or just a personal account, shouldn't pay much attention to the negativity online because that can really hurt your online presence. The negativity can cause tarnished online presences, if not handled appropriately. Nicki Minaj uses social media wonderfully, like Kingsley mentioned, and uses it to inform her followers about everything she is involved in. I didn't find it too surprising that Tyler Oakley taught Kingsley things about branding himself on social media. Tyler Oakley is another incredibly established Internet personality that has things in common with Kingsley, and Kingsley has sure used what he has learned from Tyler in amazing ways. Finally, interacting with fans is something that I would love to see more pop stars do on social media. There are pop stars that are great at interaction, like Nicki Minaj and her replies on Twitter, or Taylor Swifts lurking on Tumblr, but some stars fall flat. Beyonce is an icon, but she hasn't tweeted since 2013! C'mon Bey, let's have a little more interaction here.
I just want to give a huge thanks to Kingsley for taking the time out of his extremely busy life to answer these questions! Make sure to subscribe to his personal YouTube channel for hilarious videos, catch him on Drama King for everything on pop culture, and follow him on Twitter, by clicking the image below, for some tweets that will have you dying from laughter.

  1. I totally agree with Kingsley on the negativity. Handle that stuff in real life not online!
