Pop Thoughts With Misty Kingma

I got the best opportunity in getting to ask Misty Kingma some questions on how pop stars use social media. In case you don't know who Misty is, she is a hilarious host, youtuber and blogger. She has a great online presence with 16.2K  followers on Twitter, and a quirky blog where she hopes to inspire people to embrace their individuality through her love for social media and entertainment. She has also gotten to interview some huge stars such as Katy Perry, Usher, Demi Lovato, and many more. This video is one of her one from her YouTube channel and shows a little more of how truly awesome she is! The questions below are the ones she answered for me.

The Questions,

Do you think that majority of pop stars utilize social media to their full advantage. If yes, how so? Yes, I think most pop stars have learned that social media is now a massive part of the music industry equation. They film vlogs, have YouTube channels, obsess over Instagram, Vine, Tumblr and more. One huge factor is that Billboard ratings now take into consideration YouTube views in music charts counts. HUGE. I do think, however, that actors and actresses really fall short with social media.

What are some of your favorite pop stars to follow on social media and why do you find yourself following them? Well, first and foremost, Taylor Swift who takes everything to the next level when connecting with Swifties on social media. Who else posts emojis on fan's accounts that signify they're receiving a package in the mail? Taylor also mastered the Instagram clue game revealing details of her "1989" album and track list. I must also mention Miley Cyrus, who, whether you like her posts or not has really branded her Instagram page to be 100% authentic "Miley". If you want to find out who she is, you just have to glance at her Instagram profile. Katy Perry on the other hand is excellent with Twitter posting very witty tweets, but not often enough.

Do you think some of the tactics and social media strategies can be useful for others to follow, such as professionals like yourself, in branding and creating a positive social media presence? Absolutely. I think it can translate to a lot of professions, including mine. I studied Business and Marketing in college so first and foremost I'm a business woman and I know branding is very, very important. It's about consistency with your message and image. Through my silly candid posts I hope to make people laugh and inspire others to be unique! I would rather be "friends" with my followers rather than "fans".

If you could give advice to upcoming pop stars about their social media presence, what would you say? If you can't dedicate your time to all the various social sites out there, pick 2 or 3 and really do them well. Tweet every day, or Instagram once a day, or film Vines regularly. And comment back to people as often as you can! Nicki Minaj does a good job of this. 1 on 1 interaction builds loyalty, and Taylor Swift knows that.

Finally, What would you like to see more pop stars doing on social media? Snapchat! Are they on there yet? 2015 is going to be the year of Snapchat, mark my words.

My Thoughts,

I think that Misty is absolutely right in claiming that Snapchat will be the social media platform of 2015 because of what Madonna and other pop stars have been doing. I will explore how Snapchat is game changer in a later post though. I couldn't agree more with how Misty says how branding needs to be consistent with its message and image because that is how you build up your brand. Finally, commitment is so important as well because you can't, whether a pop star or young professional, just sparatically tweet here and there and expect to build a brand. You need to commit to a few and do them well, like Misty said.

I just want to give a huge thanks to Misty again in taking the time to answer my questions! Also, make sure to click the images below to go to her twitter and blog to show her some support!
