Katy Perry is the most followed person on Twitter with over 67 million followers. She is the straight up queen of Twitter. Why does she have so many followers? What makes her worth following? I would say that a combination of her infectious pop music, her string of number 1 hits, her witty tweets, and her lovable personality make for a good mix. Twitter is a way for Katy to promote events, inform about music, and display her personality in a simple, accessible way. Katy sure uses social media for all these things as well, and does it in a fantastic way.
Katy Perry uses her social media to promote a wide array of things. The Instagram post above shows how she pumped us all up for her Superbowl Halftime Show and gave us sneak peaks on her social media accounts. She hyped the performance up, and being the most followed person on Twitter, her halftime show was the most watched in the Superbowl history. Boom. Katy Perry also recently premiered her Prismatic World Tour movie on Epix. I have never heard of Epix before and don't even have the channel on my tv, but because of Katy's movie, I got a 14 free day trial in order to watch the movie since it exclusively debuted on Epix. I would have never known about the movie if Katy Perry didn't promote it so well on social media, since I don't have an Epix channel. I think that this was a great use of her social media presence in order to get the word out about the movie. Also, there was even a hashtag that formed around the movie, "#PWTonEpix", which people were using as well.
Pure Perry
Katy surely doesn't let personality go unnoticed online as well. She is notorious for having witty, clever, and sometimes even shady tweets or posts. I love how she isn't afraid of using social media to show her personality as well. You can totally tell that it is just not controlled by a nervous manager, but rather just Katy and her own thoughts. Katy Perry was interviewed in Elle magazine in its March 2015 issue and talked about her Twitter account. "My Twitter is very obviously run by me. So when you follow my Twitter, there is an authenticity that you sign up for. It's not management, it's not the record label, it's not me selling a product to you all the time, every single tweet. I think that what people like is that they get tidbits of my life. They get random thoughts; sometimes they'll get lyrics, and they don't even know it. I always keep them updated on what is going on."
The dress conversation is seriously going to make me have to take a Xanax.

Katy on Live-streaming Apps
At the premiere of the Prismatic World Tour, Mashable got the chance to quickly ask Katy Perry her thoughts on the newest live streaming apps such as Meerkat and Periscope. These live streaming apps allow for live video to be taken and to have your Twitter followers be able to experience it with you. The followers watching your live video can comment and like the video in real time. This allows for a new experience and Mashable questioned Katy Perry about it. The video below shows the brief interview they had with Katy Perry.
I like how Katy Perry embraces the use of these live streaming apps and welcomes them. Katy Perry said "Embrace the Future", which is exactly what artists should do. If the technology is there, then why not take advantage of it? Katy Perry is also a great artist to incorporate the live streaming apps into her concerts because of what kind of artist she is. She isn't your hipster jazz artist, or the Beach Boys, but she is a bubblegum pop star, like she mentioned. Katy's audience is at that age where their phone is their utmost priority and at her concerts, everyone has their phone out capturing the moment. So why not take advantage of the apps and use them during your show, or even before the show starts. It would be a great way for fans to connect with each other that are at the same event through these livestreaming apps.
My Thoughts
Overall, Katy Perry proves , and continues to prove, why she is the most followed person on Twitter. Katy's great social media presence sure does account for her continued success as well. I would say the most important thing about Katy Perry is that she is open to different social media platforms other than Twitter. She obviously has a Facebook page and uses her Instagram rather regularly as well. Katy also maintains a consistent image on her social media accounts which definitely helps her succeed, on and offline. Katy is one of the most prominent online presences and it is exciting to see hat she will do next; from her music to her tweets. I mean, how else were we going to know that she dressed up as a cheeto for Halloween?
