Snapchat has been around for a bit now providing us with plenty of screenshots to go around, but it has seen a recent update that added a new element to it. It has added a "discover" page where there are different articles based on media logos. The new discover page adds an element to it that I think pop stars could very well take advantage of. Pop stars have been using all sorts of different social media platforms, so why not take over Snapchat? Also, as you can see there is a Warner music icon in the bottom corner of the discover page that offers music features in it. It tends to showcase new artists and there music, as well as showcasing hit songs. Warner music saw this opportunity ahead of time and jumped on it, which was a smart choice.
Iggy Premieres on Snapchat
Iggy Azalea has recently been involved with snapchat and her music, because her feature on Wiz Khalifa's song for the upcoming movie "Furious 7" was premiered on snapchat. The audio was premiered on the Warner Music icon on the discover page. Once again, this was a great way to exclusively premiere the song on snapchat to get more traffic on the app. I know that when I heard about the newly released track, I immediately went to snapchat to listen to the song. I think that the same can be done with pop stars providing behind the scenes footage of tours and other events as well. How awesome would it be to be seeing an unedited snap story from Beyonce, Lady Gaga, or Justin Bieber? Like honestly, it just seems like a good place for pop stars to start venturing into.
Madonna was the First?
Madonna has recently been involved with snapchat in order to do something that has never been done before. Madonna, being the trendsetter she is, premiered her music video for "Living for Love" off of her upcoming album "Rebel Heart" on Snapchat. She premiered the video on the discover page where it previewed clips from the video and the user had to scroll down to instantly watch the video. I think that this was a genius way for Madonna to stay caught up with social media. Everyone is always on Snapchat, and she debuted the video on there when the update was still recent and users were still exploring it. Madonna was also smart in doing this to appeal to a younger fan base. Madonna has been around for a while, so it was smart for her to brand herself towards a new fan base that may not know too much about her. The video below shows how the video was accessible on Snapchat and the overall look of it.
What Should Snapchat do next?
Pop stars use Snapchat, but have been mainly using it with their close friends and family. I do "follow" some big-ish names on snapchat that are famous on Vine and Youtube. I can see in the near future that pop stars will do the same. I think it would be smart to see Snapchat add a verified feature to its app for the celebrities and pop stars. Snapchat would be a great way for pop stars to have a more personal connection with their fan bases. It would be a way to provide backstage footage, behind the scene moments, and everyday antics that their fan bases wouldn't otherwise get to see. It would also be possible for pop stars like Adam Levine and Christina Aquilera to have snap stories while they are on set of "The Voice". Like how awesome would that be? The personal, unedited clips would be a great way to connect on a more personal level with fans.
I would totally follow some pop stars! <3 Snapchat!
