Pop Stars Doing Good
Pop Stars often get a bad rap for some of the stuff they post on social media, but there also have been pop stars using it for the good as well. Pop stars have taken their well established brand and social media presence to use it for the good. It is nice to see pop stars using it to raise money for a cause, or to raise awareness for a cause.
Demi Lovato also has created a scholarship program that works with CAST Recovery and helps cover the expenses of the individuals struggling with mental health and/or addiction issues. She has been raising awareness of the program and mental health issues in general. She continues to inform her followers on social media of how they can help the causes she is passionate about. The "Hope Dealer" is a way to raise money for the Lovato Scholarship fund. All of the proceeds go to the fund, and she is doing a wonderful way of promoting it. Demi Lovato.
Demi Lovato has always done a phenomenal job at being proactive for what she believes in. She has struggled with different issues, and because of them, has become a warrior throughout it all. She continues to inspire others through her music and her social media posts. The posts below are some examples of how she has been using social media for the good. She continues to post self-loving instagram posts and no-makeup selfies to show her fans that appearances don't mean everything in the world. She also has posts that revolve around being fit and working out in order to make yourself feel better, not for society standards. I love how she uses herself as a role model for others struggling with different issues. I give her major kudos for using her social media presence for that.

Miley Cyrus
Miley Cyrus is known for having quite the eccentric posts on social media, but she also has been using her social media presence for different causes as well. She has teamed up with MAC Cosmetics for their Viva Glam campaign. Miley picked the colors of the lipstick and lipglass that would be under her name for the campaign. The cool thing about this campaign is that it is not just a cobranding opportunity, but every cent from the purchase of the lipsticks and lipglass will go toward helping men, women, and children living with and affected by HIV/AIDS. Miley has a massive fan base and reaching awareness on social media was a smart move to make. You can also tell that she is super passionate about the cause too because of all the promoting for it. This was also a good way for Miley to show that there is more to her than just her tongue and twerking.
The graph below is from Google Trends and shows how much of an impact Miley had with MAC Cosmetics. The products were released early 2015 and that is exactly when the term "viva glam" hit its high within the last four months. I would say that that is a pretty good way of using her social media presence in a very powerful way. Miley not only used it to promote the product, but to raise awareness for HIV/AIDS, which is something she truly cares about.
Miley also has been busy raising awareness for another cause as well. She has helped form the "Happy Hippie Foundation" which is a non-profit organization that helps raise awareness for the youth homelessness and to rally young people to fight injustice, starting with youth homelessness. She introduced the world to the issue on one the biggest stages, the 2014 Video Music Awards, and hasn't stopped supporting it since. She has been working with the organization in raising awareness about the issue. She has posted many things on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter where she talked about the foundation. She has recently worked with artists such as Ariana Grande, in filming "Backyard Sessions" which are performances that will tie in to the Happy Hippie Foundation. She even had a contest where fans could win apparel, and even one lucky winner won a trip to her Bangerz Tour by simply donating to "My Friend's Place" which is a service center that assists and inspires homeless youth to build self-sufficient lives. Miley posted a ton about the contest and many fans got involved. Miley has done an astounding job in using her well credited social media presence to not only posts picks of her bathroom selfies, but to raise awareness for issues she truly cares about.
